Running Accomplishments:

Once beat Cheryl at the Hobble Creek Half Marathon about three years ago, and kept up with Peggy for 100m four years ago. Completion of 52 marathons to date.

I enjoy the marathon distance. It demands consistency in training and provides a constant goal to work towards. Could not run without the support of my great family and friends.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy would be the number one goal. To accomplish this long-term feat I need to cross-train and add strength training into the mix.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Someday I would like to qualify for Boston although at the moment it seems very tough!

Personal:

Love running, music, art, food, friends and family in no particular order it just depends on the day.

Early morning! I usually run with Rob in the morning on a couple of routes we have picked out. He called yesterday and mentioned because it was only to be 10 degrees if we might opt for the gym. I think in my old age I am wimping out because I agreed with him. This is the most indoor running ever during the winter. I know the BBK group would run -40 in a white out but I will leave that experience for tomorrow morning. The time went by really fast and ran into a couple of friends that I had not seen in quite a while. I invited them to come back to running group, it is kind of like re-activation efforts for those who have lost their way (getting lost in the gym rat routine).

I am also bummed because the locker room at work is being remodeled for the next two months so I am struggling to find a solution to keep on running without grossing out my co-workers.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to successfully run at lunch time without taking a shower? I have thought of towels, wet wipes and cologne but there has got to be a more effective way.

I have no clue how to manage it. Unless I can shower, I'm sure I wouldn't smell too good. Maybe you could just stay away from all your co-workers?

I may be wimping out tomorrow. There are some BBKer's more dedicated than me. Let's see, I can run outside in 20 degree weather, icy roads, with the possibility of falling and unable to put in any kind of speed work, or I can stay inside where it's warm and I can run as fast as I want. Which should I choose? Want to meet me at the So. Jordan Rec Center indoor track tomorrow?

Cheryl, what time does it open?

From Kelli on Mon, Jan 05, 2009 at 23:27:14

Just roll around in the snow with some soap!

10.5 on a Monday, you never cease to amaze me.

It opens at 5:30am. What do you think? You could meet Peggy at 5:15 and see how the roads are, and if they're not great, you can move on over to the Rec Center.

Good luck with the locker room thing! I really like Kelli's suggestion! LOL. She's always keeps me laughing. Maybe there is another gym or something of the like that your work can help you get into since they are closing theirs?

I can't believe you've already got 10.5 in. I hate the treamill so much, when its freezing outside (anything under 60 for me) I would rather do a class with a few miles of running on a treadmill. I do however LOVE the oval in the winter, perfect running weather! I'd be happy there anytime. Let me know if you're meeting there again on a Sat and I'll try to join.

After seeing that the roads were not even plowed this morning I decided to just run around the neighborhood. Very disappointing 'cause I am missing my running friends. Hopefully Thursday will be a bit better.

I asked the department that manages the locker room if they had any ideas or suggestions and they mentioned that the fountains on temple square run year round. -Everyone is a comedian. I believe the solution is just to get up early and run.
