Running Accomplishments:

Once beat Cheryl at the Hobble Creek Half Marathon about three years ago, and kept up with Peggy for 100m four years ago. Completion of 52 marathons to date.

I enjoy the marathon distance. It demands consistency in training and provides a constant goal to work towards. Could not run without the support of my great family and friends.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy would be the number one goal. To accomplish this long-term feat I need to cross-train and add strength training into the mix.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Someday I would like to qualify for Boston although at the moment it seems very tough!

Personal:

Love running, music, art, food, friends and family in no particular order it just depends on the day.

Saturday morning. My wife was leaving out of town later this morning so I had to get up extra early to get in my mileage for the week. Okay, week four and I am about dead. My butt hurts and going up and down stairs hurts also. I am about 20 miles away from my monthly goal so next week I will just run with the group and focus on stretching the rest of the time.

The first ten miles today went very quickly and then I started to fade. This is the hardest part about distance running for me. Is it the long-runs that help build endurance or is it conditioning? Or is it a combination of both? Finding out the answer to this question is going to make all the difference this year with marathon running.

The air seemed to be much cleaner this morning than it has been in quite some time. I could see all the way the Ochre mountains and then some but the East side still looks crappy. It was raining off and on which probably helped clean the air. I am actually excited about snow coming early next week.

I have babysitting duty all day long while my wife is at a Women's Conference with her friends. The kids have mentioned that they want to make a home movie with the video camera. Could be interesting, I will have to report on how this all pans out.

Sounds like a fun day!! But way to take care of the kids so your wife can GO away!!! NICE GUY!

I am sorry your butt hurts. Be glad you skipped the hill workout this week because that might have done your sorry butt in!!! My behind is still sore from it.

You do a great job and are so motivated, you will do fine this year!

Eric, I'm so impressed by your mileage! Toying with the idea of my first marathon I think about how much you run and I'm not sure I can take it week after week. YOU ROCK! Not only do you get your mileage in, but you do it without complaining early in the morning to help the wife out! Great job on and off the pavement!

Eric,

Great run and way to hit those miles. You are doing great at meeting those 50 mile weeks. You ask a question on long run fatigue. I can tell such a difference in my long runs now because my weekly base has averaged 50 miles throughout November and December. I only hit 44 this week because of the day off from the race, but Peggy and I cant wait to start building slowly to hit the 60 mile base. I am starting to be a believer in building that base so the long runs are not that big of a percentage of your weekly mileage.

Way to put in the miles. And I hope you had fun baby sitting. Keep up this kind of mileage, and I think you should have your best marathon ever--as long as you don't injure yourself, like I did.

How many marathons are you running this year? You are awesome. I'm really impressed that you are tending the kids so your wife can go to her Women's Conference.

Everyone,

Thanks for the positive feedback. It has been a really good day and the kids and I had a blast. I took them to Target and they each got to pick out a $5 prop to use in their movie. It was a lot of fun and when Tami came home we ordered pizza and had a movie night. Nothing like little actors having their premier with the their proud parents watching.

The first marathon will be Salt Lake then Ogden, Ogden and then I will see what happens. Tami and I are expecting a child in the middle of May so I will play it by ear.
