Running Accomplishments:

Once beat Cheryl at the Hobble Creek Half Marathon about three years ago, and kept up with Peggy for 100m four years ago. Completion of 52 marathons to date.

I enjoy the marathon distance. It demands consistency in training and provides a constant goal to work towards. Could not run without the support of my great family and friends.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy would be the number one goal. To accomplish this long-term feat I need to cross-train and add strength training into the mix.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Someday I would like to qualify for Boston although at the moment it seems very tough!

Personal:

Love running, music, art, food, friends and family in no particular order it just depends on the day.

I met my friend Rob this morning at 5:00 am and we put in about 7 miles and then I put in an additional mile getting back to my home. It was a nice morning for a change, in the upper 30's which is a switch for the last couple of weeks. I have noticed that the inversion is starting to settle in so I am getting anxious for a snow storm to settle in.

After the run I did the ab work-out that is posted in the latest issue of Runner's World magazine. I really enjoyed the metronome exercise it reminded me of my childhood rolling around on the floor goofing off.

The article mentions that core strength will build speed so I am committing myself, here on this blog in front of all you rabid runners that I will build my core strength come hell or high water. If I fail you can tease me mercilessly, but if I succeed I might be able to keep up with Peggy and the front of the pack.

Eric--I have committed also to building core strength. My new year's resolution is to spend 20-30 minutes, every day (Ok 6 days a week) doing core exercises. So far I've succeeded. We can keep each other on the straight and narrow (that's how I hope my core will look soon).

Cheryl,

I like that idea. Let's check-up on each other. It seems that when I am accountable to someone the chance of follow through is much better. I have a feeling that this is going to be a much better year than last. I am having more fun running this year.

It seems we have all been talking about the same workout. To bad it is so cold or we could add it on to the end of group on Tues & Thurs. Some accountability would help me out.

Eric and Jody--I was thinking when spring hits and we can get back on the track or some nice area to workout at, that I would suggest working on things like core strength and power (jumping, plymetrics, that type of thing), which I think would really benefit our running. At least that's what all the experts suggest doing.

Cheryl,

I think that is a great idea. We used to do some core elements several years ago and it would be nice to add it back into the workouts. They really seemed to help and they were even kind of fun. Plus, it gave me an excuse to skip down the track and re-live my childhood!
