Running Accomplishments:

Once beat Cheryl at the Hobble Creek Half Marathon about three years ago, and kept up with Peggy for 100m four years ago. Completion of 52 marathons to date.

I enjoy the marathon distance. It demands consistency in training and provides a constant goal to work towards. Could not run without the support of my great family and friends. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy would be the number one goal. To accomplish this long-term feat I need to cross-train and add strength training into the mix.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Someday I would like to qualify for Boston although at the moment it seems very tough!

Personal:

Love running, music, art, food, friends and family in no particular order it just depends on the day.

Early morning morning with Rob. My bruised ribs are still killing me and it didn't help that Rob kept on making references about John Elway looking like Mr. Ed complete with song and visual descriptions. I had to completely stop and laugh as carefully as possible. Very painful but very funny.

 It felt good to be running back in my familiar surroundings here in good old Utah!

Late to running group this morning because my ribs still hurt like crazy. After lathering with Icy Hot I headed in the car to the meeting place. Every stall was taken but one and a handicapped parking space. Incredible! I cannot believe the turn out we are getting in the middle of Winter. I am very excited to see how Spring and Summer will turn out. I ran hill repeats with Alan and Debbie mostly. Talked about some books that people are reading and some of them seem very interesting.

I went for an afternoon run and it felt wonderful. It was very slow but somehow my side feels better when it is warmed up and in motion as long as it is not too vigorous.

Kind of a funny day. I tried to get up early and go running but was still a bit sore so I decided to wait until later in the day.

I found out that Dr. Boud volunteers at the Church Office Building in the Missionary Department. Later in the morning he came to visit me. I asked him if my lack of sleep was contributing to my weight gain and he said indeed it was. He whipped out his prescription pad right there in my office and his remedy was for me to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night and promised the weight would come off quickly. I am going to follow the prescription to the letter. I have important running work to do this year.

At lunch time I ran 5.15 along Memory Grove and City Creek Canyon. It is warming up to about 40 degrees which seems to me to be perfect running weather. Lots of people are starting to come out and enjoy the warmer weather.

Looking forward to getting to bed early this evening and waking up early to go running with the BBK's.

Today was a great running day. I finally got enough sleep the night before to not feel like an absolute wreck while running. I ended up taking some Celebrex for my ribs. There is a good chance that they may be cracked and can take up to six weeks to heal but I am pretty confident that there are no internal injuries. I wouldn't be able to run if there were.

I met the BBK's this moring and I was blown away by the how many people came out. I counted at least 22 and we were even missing a few regulars. (Like my buddy Cheryl) We ran some 2 mile repeats and felt fairly strong although I could tell that we ran some long inclines. Peggy always does a great job at picking out unique run with very challenging workouts. She makes us work hard but provides a lot of motivation too.

I was able to run with Rachel for a while and visit. Also, was able to visit with Kelli, Alan, Kimberly, Dean, Debbie and a host of others.

In the afternoon I ended up running up the canyon. It was very busy. I can tell a lot of people are starting to get serious about their marathon training

Very quick run around the neighborhood before getting ready for work. It was very breezy with what appears to be snow falling on the mountains. Hopefully the snow falls in the valley and makes it look like Christmas again. I was running with my ipod but the headphones had a short in them which became very annoying so I just turned the music off and listened to my breathing and footsteps. Listening to one's body is pretty interesting in its own way. This machine of mine may be getting old but it still works.

6:30 am start with a few of the Bingham Buttkickers. Everyone ran a comfortable pace for 16 miles around the Riverton and Herriman area. The weather was almost perfect this morning although I did get a little cold later into the run. I have to say that 16 miles with friends goes by much faster with friends than going at it alone.
